Frankincense Oil ~ has a sweet, spicy resinous scent with a fresh, slightly camphoraceous top note.  It is pale yellow or greenish in color.

Method of Extractions ~ The bark is incised so that the tree yields a gum resin, which is collected after it solidifies into amber-colored lumps the size of a pea. This resin is then steam-distilled to produce the essential oil.

Main Constituents ~ Monoterpenes, esters, sesquiterpenes and alcohols.

Therapeutic Properties ~ Frankincense is a tonifying oil with the anti-inflammatory and astringent properties.  It is a wonderful rejuvenating oil to use in massage and skin lotions.  Blends well with citrus, spice, basil, cedar wood, myrrh, neroli, pine, sandalwood and vetiver oils.  The main actions is on the nervous system, where its effect is to calm and lift the spirits while at the same time increasing energy.  The townifying and rejuvenating properties of frankincense make it one of the most important oils for improving skin tone and treating aging skin and wrinkles, as well as reducing scar tissue.  It is also antiseptic and astringent and will help to close wounds and heal ulcers.
